History
Having its headquarters in Ōta, Tokyo, Canon Inc., is a Japanese MNC, that specializes in manufacturing computer printers, photocopiers, steppers, medical equipment, camcorders, cameras. Its roots go back to 1937 in Japan, with the setting up of Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory. Canon was established as a global imaging leader amidst other camera companies. In the initial years, the company did not create its own optical glass because of lack of facilities, and instead hooked in Nikkor lenses (now known as Nikon Corporation). 166,980 employees worked for Canon as of 2008, and it generated a revenue worth $34.472 billion as of 2009. Canon has more than 200 consolidated subsidiaries all over the world. When it comes to ranking amongst the US patent winners, Canon has scored high consistently, with 2204 patents in its kitty as of 2009. The company also does a lot of charitable activities; for example, it provided tremendous financial support to the earthquake affected people of Sichuan province, in China in 2008.

Canon is also doing exceptionally well in terms of finance in spite of having over 197,386 employees all over the world, and has witnessed an increase of 1.96% in revenue in the 4th quarter of 2015, compared to its competitors whose sales dropped by –19.15% in the same time period. It is expanding in size with every passing year and is constantly launching different products in the market.
